'Arafa is a mountain that is near the Holy City of Mecca.
In this Holy day, and in this Holy location, the pilgrims perform certain obligatory duties that Allah (S.W.T.) has prescribed upon them through the Holy Messenger Muhammad (pbuh&hp).
Importance of this day:
Allah (S.W.T.) said in the Holy Qur'an:
But, when ye press on in the multitude from 'Arafat, remember Allah by the sacred monument. (2:198)
'Arafa is a day on which Allah (S.W.T.)'s grace and generosity are abundant and the devil is debased and disgraced and ever more shunned.
It is reported that on the day of 'Arafah, Imam Zaynul Abideen (pbuh) heard the voice of a beggar. He turned to the beggar and said, "Shame on you that you are begging from other than Allah (S.W.T.) on this day! There is hope that Allah (S.W.T.)'s Mercy is even for the baby in the mother's womb, and that he will become virtuous."
Recommended acts of this day:
There are many recommended acts to perform in this holy day, some of which are:
1) Ghusl (Recommended ritual shower, performed in the same manner of Ghusl Al-Janaba, only that the intention differs).
2) Salutation to Imam Al-Hussein (pbuh), which is equivalent to performing one thousand (obligatory) pilgrimages and one thousand 'umras (recommended pilgrimages), and fighting one thousand holy wars, and even more than them all.
