How is khums paid on unused household items?

Can I pay a lump sum of khums for miscellaneous household stuff by having intention to pay for all things I have not used? If not, what is the best way?

If you did not need (use) the household stuff throughout the year, then you can estimate their value and pay its fifth (khums).
