What is the Holy Quran?
The Holy Quran is God’s final message and scripture to mankind through his final messenger, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp) in the year 570 C.E. 1400 years ago. The Quran is the exact words of the Almighty God. It was revealed in two forms:
- Instantaneous Revelation: the essence or spirit of the message of the Quran was revealed to the heart of Muhammad on Laylat al Qadr (Arabic: لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ) – the Night of Destiny
- Gradual Revelation: script over the 23 years of the Holy Messenger’s prophet mission.
God equipped his messengers with proofs to substantiate their message and claim of prophethood. Previous prophets brought miracles such as turning a wooden stick into a snake, curing the blind, splitting the sea, and many others. Unfortunately, these miracles are no longer there for us to see and marvel at. The Holy Quran is not only the last of scriptures to be revealed but also an everlasting miracle. This Holy book is considered a miracle for several reasons: its power of reason brings indispensable logical proofs, prophecies, and scientific revelations.
Consider a man living in an environment far from knowledge and culture, an orphan who lost both parents at a young age, and never attended a class or wrote a single letter. It was in such circumstances that the Holy Prophet brought forth a melodic text with rich content constructing a system of life containing bringing forth answers and guidance to topics of beliefs, jurisprudence, legislation, stories and lessons of prophets, morals, human rights, marital and family affairs, society and more, along with a set of facts in various scientific disciplines which fourteen centuries on and after a technological revolution, scientists are only beginning to appreciate. This includes astonishing discoveries such as the rotation of the earth, the dual-sex nature of plants, the movement of tectonic plates, the creation of humans from a man’s sperm and a woman’s egg, and numerous other important scientific facts detailed in books about the miracles found in the Quran.
The Holy Quran is simply a living miracle that was revealed nearly 1400 years ago yet applies to our daily lives today. With a set of theoretical and practical topics imparted to humanity, the Quran aims to guide humans to happiness in this world and the next.
