Leesburg, VA – I.M.A.M.’s Vice Chairman, Sayyid M. B. Kashmiri joined in the march and celebration of Juneteenth in Northern Virginia organized by the NAACP’s Loudon Branch.

Although it was only recently adopted as a federal holiday in June 2021, Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in 1865 and has been celebrated every year since on the 19th of June.

Sayyid Kashmiri noted that “It is important to be in solidarity and collaboration with others standing for freedom and equality against injustice and discrimination. As Almighty God says in [17:70] of the Holy Quran, ‘Certainly We have honored the Children of Adam.’ Also, the Holy Prophet (pbuh&hp) is reported to have said, ‘All of you are from Adam, and Adam is from dust.’” 1

“The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. Chartered in 1940, the Loudoun Branch of the NAACP is one of the oldest branches of the NAACP.” 2

I.M.AM. is the liaison office of the Supreme Religious Authority in North America and strives to cultivate a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive Muslim community of strong faith and good citizenry that forms a building block in North American society.
