Sayyid Murtadha al-Kashmiri

Sayyid Murtadha al-Kashmiri, the son of His Eminence Sayyid Ali Naqi and the grandson of Ayatullah Sayyid Murtadha al-Ridhawi al-Kashmiri, comes from a renowned family recognized for their high levels of education, piety, and dedicated service supporting the Muslim community. The Kashmiri family links to the family of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp) through the lineage of Musa al-Mubarqa, son of Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (p). The family became known socially by the last name “Kashmiri” because their grandfather lived in Kashmir for a time as a preacher and resident religious scholar.

With religious service in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, and India for nearly a thousand years, the Kashmiri family has established a reputation of integrity and honor, exhibited in the family’s love of acquiring knowledge and their passion to serve the community in which they live. As such, Sayyid Murtadha al-Kashmiri completed most of his religious studies in Najaf, Iraq. Sayyid Murtadha studied under the guidance of the most prominent teachers in the Muslim world such as Shaykh al-Tinqabooni in logic; Shaykh Ameen Fakhriddine and Shaykh Ahmad al-Bahadli in Arabic literacy and grammar; Shaykh Abd al-Amir al-Qabbanchi, Sayyid Ezziddine Bahr al-Uloom, and Sayyid Mohammad Hussain al-Hakim in jurisprudence; and Sayyid Mohammad Baqir al-Hakim in principles of jurisprudence.

Sayyid Murtadha continued his higher seminary education with several grand instructors such as the late marja Sayyid al-Khoei, the late marja Sayyid al-Mustanbit, and Grand Ayatullah Sayyid al-Sistani.

Sayyid Murtadha al-Kashmiri is a lecturer and author as well. He wrote a book about Musa al-Mubarqa son of the seventh infallible successor of Ahl al-Bayt (pbut), Imam Mohammad al-Jawad (p), who is part of the Kashmiri family lineage. In addition, Sayyid Murtadha started giving lectures at an early age in different cities in Iraq, and later in Gulf Arab countries and Europe.

Sayyid Murtadha served as a resident scholar in Dubai, UAE, for over twenty years giving religious services and has been the representative for several religious authorities, including the late marja Sayyid al-Khoei, the late marja Sayyid al-Ghulpayghani, the late marja’ Shaykh al-Araki, and Grand Ayatullah Sayyid al-Sistani.

Sayyid Murtadha al-Kashmiri, as a Special Representative of Religious Affairs of Grand Ayatullah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani for Europe and North America, has established many religious institutions in different countries such as Imam Ali Foundation in London, United Kingdom (his main European Office); Al-Turath Center, Berlin, Germany; Al-Kawthar Center in the Netherlands; Al-Ghary Center in Belgium; Al-Qaem Center in Sweden; Al-Sadiq School in Paris; and Imam Mahdi Association of Marjaeya in the United States of America.
