The Annual Quran Tajwid Recitation Competition for the Holy Month of Ramadan 1442/2021 came to an end earlier than planned, when the judges determined that an additional round was unnecessary to reach a decision. The competition, which was broadcast live on Youtube, commenced on Sunday, April 18th, 2021 and was scheduled to end on April, 27th, 2021.

This was the first virtual, national Quran Tajwid recitation competition of its kind in North America for adults. Forty-four competitors participated from the United States and Canada.

The judging committee, which consisted of top experts in their field, joined from Egypt. In addition to listening to the contestants’ recitations, they went on to advise each contestant after their turn, imparting valuable advice and knowledge. The competition, in turn, resembled more of an educational Quranic Tajwid course.

At the request of the judging committee, the grand prizes were increased to five places from the original three because of the close margin in scores.

The winners of this year’s competition were:

1st Place: Ahmad Sheikhzada, from Norfolk, Virginia
2nd Place: Hakim Mohammed alAkraa, from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
3rd Place: Mohamd Sadq al-Hussinan, from Windsor, Ontario
4th Place: Zuhair Hussaini, from Lindenhurst, New York
5th Place: Mahmood Zarabi, from Richmond Hill, Ontario
