I had purchased an item from an online store; however, it was delivered with an additional item by mistake. I have tried my best to contact the seller but to no avail and it has been more than a week now. Should I wait for the seller to respond and not use the additional item, wait for the seller to respond but use it with the intention to pay them once they respond, give it to some deserving poor person, or use it and pay its value to some deserving poor person?
In the event that you are unable to reach the owner, and there is no special policy that is stipulated in the agreement of sale, you may donate it or its value to the poor on behalf of its owner. However, since it has been only one week, you should wait until you have ascertained that the owner cannot be reached. If you reach the owner later and they request its value back, then you must pay them accordingly.
