In the Name of God, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

The supreme religious authority in the holy city of Najaf expresses its deepest remorse and sorrow for the tragic incident that the city of Beirut was subjected to as a result of the massive explosion that took place at its port, which resulted in a large number of fatalities, missing persons, scores of wounded and injured, and the displacement of tens of thousands of citizens from their homes. This explosion has caused great ruin [to the city and its residents], heavy losses, and extensive damage to buildings and property, it is a tragic scene the likes of which has been rarely seen in recent times.

As such, we extend our sincere condolences and sympathy to the citizens of Lebanon for this great affliction, and we ask God, the Most High and Almighty, to grant them immense patience and solidarity, and strengthen them so they can overcome this great ordeal. We call upon all the respected believers and all people who love [the establishment of] righteousness in the world to stand with the people of Lebanon in this difficult situation, and provide them with all available means of aid to mitigate the effects of this great disaster.

We ask God, the Most Exalted, to bestow His mercy upon the victims and grant their loved ones patience and solace, and heal the wounded, for He is the Most Merciful.
