Ayatullah al-Sistani's Statement of Condolence on the Passing of Ayatullah al-Hakeem

In the name of God, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

“We are the servants of God and to Him we shall all return”

Quran (2:156)

It is with great sadness and regret that I received news of the demise of the divine scholar, the jurist of Ahlul-Bayt (pbut), Ayatullah Sayyid Muhammad Saeed al-Tabatabai al-Hakeem (may God be pleased with him).

The seminary (Hawza Al-Ilmiya) in al-Najaf al-Ashraf has lost one of its eminent scholars and jurists who dedicated his honorable self to support the religion and faith, devoting his blessed life to the service of knowledge and its people – leaving behind a glorious heritage of erudition of lofty stature.

And as I offer my condolences on this great affliction to our Imam al-Mahdi (may our souls be sacrificed for him), the Hawzas and the deceased’s family – especially his honorable brothers and sons – and the believers in general, I ask Almighty God and All-Powerful to elevate his rank next to Muhammad (pbuh&hp) and his immaculate progeny and to grant his family and devotees patience and solace. There is no strength or power but with God Almighty.
