Do I have to obey my parents regarding my career-choice?

A pious young man is very committed for his duty towards his Lord. Has been doing a lot of good for the sake of God. Together with some of his elder friends, who keep guiding him towards his religion, he now wants to institutionalize his efforts by registering a trust that would work for this noble cause of serving the underprivileged in the community. This young man’s father is a little worried about his career as he has recently joined a job and the father fears that his involvement in this might create problems in his career. However, the young man believes that he can create a balance between the two. What should be this young man’s course of action?

1. Unconditionally obey his father without trying to convince him
2. Discuss his thoughts with his father and try to convince him. The son should kindly speak to his father about being able to balance between helping the underprivileged and succeeding in his career.
