Shaykh Anwar Abdulmalik

Shaykh Anwar was born and raised in New Jersey and comes from a deeply rooted American Muslim family. On his father’s side, he is a fourth-generation Muslim, descended from American converts. His mother’s family hails from the island of Puerto Rico, and growing up, he was surrounded by the Spanish language and culture through his mother and extended family.

Motivated to deepen his connection to his heritage, Shaykh Anwar traveled to Valencia, Spain, where he studied at a language institute to perfect his Spanish. He later earned his first Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language.

In 2011, he began his formal Islamic studies with a few local resident scholars in Sanford, Florida. Two years later, in 2013, he continued his journey of knowledge in the holy city of Qom, Iran, where he obtained a B.A. in Quran and Hadith Sciences.

After returning to the U.S. in 2021, Shaykh Anwar moved to Colombia, South America, where he served the Shia community in Cali—delivering regular Friday sermons and engaging in community development. He went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education.

Shaykh Anwar currently serves as an Islamic scholar, digital content creator, and the overseer of I.M.A.M’s Spanish content department, where he is dedicated to expanding access to Islamic knowledge across the Spanish-speaking world. His work bridges language, culture, and faith to help reach and uplift Latino Muslim communities globally.

He also teaches Quranic Sciences to a youth group in the Washington area, continuing his efforts to support the next generation of American Muslims.
