I just got a 4 month contract working at a company outside of my city and it would normally be considered travel for me. Will my prayers be shortened (qasr) or complete (tamam) if I travel this distance everyday for 4 months?
You are considered to be travelling and must shorten the 4 rak’ah prayers to 2 rak’ahs (qasr) when you travel, after you pass hadd al-tarakhus . The rules of travel for similar circumstances are as follows: a. A person is considered to be a frequent traveler and it required to pray complete prayers in his travel if:
One travels at least 10 times within ten days of the month, or is travelling for at least ten days at a time with in a month, and he intends to continue to do so for a period of 6 months out of one year, or for 3 months out of two years or more.
b. If one travels eight to nine times out of eight or nine days or for an eight to nine day period out of the month and intends to do so for 6 months out of the year, or for 3 months out of at least two years:
The Ruling: by obligatory precaution he must pray complete (tamam) and shortened (qasr) prayers.
c. If one travels seven times out of seven days or for seven days at a time out of the month and intends to do so for 6 months out of the year or for 3 months of a two year or more period, then:
The Ruling: Prays shortened prayers (qasr).
