Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq, 1447 A.H.

April 13, 2026, is the 25th of Shawwal 1447 A.H., which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (p).

A Cure We Often Forget

There’s something deeply human about turning to God only when things fall apart. When the pain becomes too heavy, when the answers don’t come, when nothing else seems to work, that’s when our hands finally rise in dua. But Imam al-Sadiq (p) reminds us of something we often overlook. He said, “Supplicate, because in it is a cure from every disease” (Al-Tabarsi, Makarim al-Akhlaq, p. 271).

Every disease, not just physical illness, but the quiet ones too, such as anxiety that sits in the chest, grief that lingers longer than it should, sins that weigh on the heart, and emptiness that nothing else seems to fill. Dua is a connection we’re invited into, it’s a space where healing begins, even if nothing around us has changed yet.

On the martyrdom of Imam al-Sadiq (p), this hadith feels especially heavy. He lived in a time of pressure, surveillance, and injustice, and yet he taught people to turn inward and upward. To ask. To whisper. To rely on God not as a last resort, but as a constant source of strength. Maybe that’s what we’re missing. We wait for things to get unbearable before we make du‘a, when in reality, dua is what keeps us from breaking in the first place.

So today, as we remember his life and his sacrifice, maybe the best way to honor him is something simple: to raise our hands a little more often. To speak to God honestly and to believe, even if it’s just a little, that healing is already on its way.
