The Crescent Moon of the Month of Rajab, 1446 A.H.

To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Thursday, January 2nd, 2025 will be the first day of the month of Rajab, 1446 A.H. for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from any region of North America. Therefore, Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, will be the last day of Jumada al-Akhira, 1446 A.H.

*** NOTE ***

After this announcement was issued, the crescent committee received contradictory reports from the southwest region of the United States. However, those who have contentment of moon-sighting may consider Wednesday as the first of Rajab in the southern parts of the United States only. 

We urge those who are interested in moon-sighting to go out with a larger number of dutiful (adil) believers and professional tools to provide a strong report and report it to the committee faster. 

We ask God, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and to hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).

The Moon-Sighting Committee was established during the seventh annual conference of The Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America, and has been providing monthly sighting announcements to the North American Shia Muslim communities since 2007. The Council adopts/renews its members on an annual basis.
