Colombia Earthquake: Our Community Members are Among Those Affected

Peace be upon you.

On Monday, August 10th, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia, the strongest the country has recorded in more than a century. Hundreds are dead and thousands are injured or missing. Families are sleeping outdoors, hospitals are overwhelmed, and communities near the epicenter remain cut off.

Our community members are also among those affected. I.M.A.M. is in direct communication with Islamic scholars and their congregations in the region, and through them we are gaining a clear picture of the most urgent needs.

I.M.A.M. has established a Colombia Earthquake Relief fund. Working through these same trusted contacts, your contributions will go toward emergency shelter, food, clean water, and medical care.

Believers may contribute through general donations or allocate their khums (Sahm Imam only) toward this humanitarian relief effort, in accordance with the guidelines of the Religious Authority.
