Two Bad Traits to Avoid

Imam Hasan al-Askari (p) gave a powerful piece of advice, saying: “Beware of spreading information about people and seeking leadership, for these two call you toward destruction” [Tuhuf al-‘Uqul, p. 487].

This narration emphasizes the dangers of two destructive traits: gossip and the pursuit of power. Spreading information about others, whether true or not, can lead to division and harm within communities. Similarly, seeking leadership for the sake of control or authority is spiritually dangerous, often leading to arrogance and moral downfall. Imam al-Askari (p) warns us to guard against these tendencies, focusing instead on humility, integrity, and service to others.
