To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that Sunday, October 2nd, 2016, is the last day of Dhil Hajjah, 1437 A.H. and Monday, October 3rd, 2016, will be the first day of the month of Muharram al-Haram, 1438 A.H. for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset onSaturday, October 1st, 2016, in any region of North America.

The Day of Ashura, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (as), will therefore be on Wednesday, October 12, 2016.

We ask Allah (swt) to give us victory and success in gaining the maximum benefits this month as we honor the Ahl al-Bayt (as) and we ask Him as well to increase their remembrance among ourselves, our family, and our friends. Finally, we ask Allah (swt) to hasten the Return of our Master, the Awaited Imam (ajfs).
