Condolence Statement from His Eminence Sayyid Sistani Following the Passing of Ayatollah Sayyid Musa Shobeiri Zanjani

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return.”

The passing of the highly esteemed marjaʿ and distinguished jurist of the Ahl al-Bayt school of thought, Ayatollah Sayyid Haj Musa Shobeiri Zanjani (may Allah’s pleasure be upon him), is a painful loss and a tremendous setback.

Throughout his blessed life, that distinguished scholar devoted himself to research and the pursuit of knowledge and teaching. He was among the eminent scholars and pillars of the blessed Seminary of Qom, and was an outstanding embodiment of a Godly scholar.

His valuable scholarly works and other religious services constitute a precious legacy, while his conduct and way of life will forever remain a lasting example for those engaged in religious scholarship. May Allah exalt his noble rank and unite him with his pure and immaculate forefathers.

With profound sorrow and grief, I extend my condolences for this great loss to the sacred presence of Imam al-Mahdi (may our souls be sacrificed for him), to the seminaries, to the respected members of his family—particularly his esteemed sons—and to all believers. I beseech Almighty Allah to grant everyone patience and a great reward.
