A Glimpse of Paradise

On the blessed birth anniversary of Imam al-Hasan ibn Ali (p), we are reminded of a testimony so powerful that it alone defines his rank.

It is reported that the Messenger of God (pbuh&hp) said, “Whoever wishes to look at the leader of the youth of the people of Paradise, let them look at al-Hasan (p)” (Ibn Asakir, Tarikh Dimashq, p. 78, no.136).

These are the words of the Prophet (pbuh&hp), spoken about his beloved grandson, raised in his arms, nurtured in his character, and shaped by his light.

What Does It Mean to Be the Leader of the Youth of Paradise?

Paradise is the realm of perfection. It is free from ego, injustice, pride, and cruelty. To be named the leader of its youth is to embody purity, generosity, patience, and divine dignity at the highest level.

Imam al-Hasan (p) was known for his unmatched generosity. He divided his wealth with the poor not once, but multiple times in his life. He forgave those who wronged him. He chose peace over bloodshed when it protected the faith. He showed the world that true greatness lies in restraint, in mercy, and in protecting the unity of the Ummah.

A Reflection for Us Today

When the Prophet (pbuh&hp) said, “Let them look at al-Hasan,” he was teaching us something timeless: If you want to see what Paradise looks like in human form, look at his character.

On this blessed day, let us reflect on how closely our character resembles that of our Imam (p). Are we generous? Are we patient? Do we choose dignity over ego?

May God allow us to love Imam al-Hasan (p), follow his example, and be gathered under his leadership in the gardens of Paradise.
