What is your question?

Is it permissible for a man to look at a non-mahram woman if his intention is temporary marriage? In general, practically speaking, isn’t it not feasible for men to be constantly lowering their gaze with female colleagues at work or at the university?

Answer

If the man intends to marry a specific woman, he is permitted to gaze at her, albeit without the intention of sexual pleasure. Looking at women is permissible per se, provided that you are immune from committing any unlawful act, and you do not look with a lustful intention.

What is your question?

A person bought bitcoins for a certain amount of money and thereafter lost 80% of its value. When the khums due date arrives, will the person have to pay khums on the purchase value or current value?

Answer

Khums must be paid on the original amount [of money] that was used to purchase the bitcoin, because it has not yet been confirmed by the supreme religious authority whether purchasing bitcoins is a valid transaction or not, therefore, the money that was paid in return for a bitcoin is deemed as surplus which is subject to khums if it exceeds their living expenses.

What is your question?

In the West, non-Muslim men and women greet the other person by extending their hand for a handshake regardless of the gender, this is the custom. Refusing to shake hands at times puts one in a very awkward situation and also appears rude, which is negative for the Muslim image. In such a situation, is it permissible to shake hands, especially given the intention is pure? If it is not permissible, how should I avoid it without creating an awkward situation?

Answer

Muslim-Americans should be proud to practice the requirements of their faith and abide by their religious obligations. Today, Muslims in America participate and work in all spheres and occupy some of the highest positions in both the public and private sectors with complete commitment to their religious duties.

It is not permissible to shake hands with the opposite gender, if both individuals are Muslim then there should be no issue of hardship, awkwardness or social impropriety. If the other person is a non-Muslim and refraining from shaking hands imposes unbearable hardship (i.e. it is not merely the feeling of awkwardness or perception of rudeness), it is permissible to the necessary extent only.
